Dear 4th Grade Families!

Hello and welcome to 4th grade! My name is Mr. Roman, and I am very excited to be your child’s 4th grade teacher this year. Fourth grade may or may not be a culture shock to some students and parents, but it will be an exciting year. We will have a challenge to get back on track, but with more support than before. I look forward to working with Families I know and new Families I will get to know, and I look forward to working with you to provide the best support for your child.

Please find below policies and rules for our classroom.

Behavior:
Students will be expected to follow rules and classroom culture. I will communicate with Families with any behavior issues to strategize together. I will contact Families before I send students out of class or issue referrals.

Homework and Classwork:
Homework is required and is worth 10% of the student’s grade. Students will be assigned homework daily. In 4th grade, the academic and independent expectations are high since the goal is to prepare them for middle school. Students MUST complete their daily homework and turn it in the following school day to receive credit. No late homework is accepted for reasons other than absences or emergencies. Students who repeatedly do not turn in homework may miss recess to complete their homework. Students and/or parents can contact me for homework help M-F from 4pm-6pm.

Classwork goes hand in hand with attendance. This means that if a student is absent, he/she will receive no credit for the classwork that was missed. Classwork is also worth 10% of the student’s grade.

Make-up Work:
There will be NO make-ups for any missed exams (tests/quizzes) unless there is a doctor’s note and/or Family communication.

PowerSchool/Class Website:
Parents/Guardians can check their child’s academic grades and attendance through PowerSchool, our school’s online portal. Please note that I will not be sending home progress reports this year. If you would like to keep track of your child’s academic progress, please use the parent portal through PowerSchool. You can attain your login information from the front office.

You can also get updates of class assignments on my classroom website at:

Please subscribe to the webpage to get the latest updates.

Weighted Grade
Homework 10%
Classwork 10%
Project 20%
Quizzes 20%
Tests 40%

The following is expected for all assignments:
Neatly written: All work should be neatly written, so both you and I are able to read. Do not rush; take your time.

Proper heading:

Your paper needs to have your name, number, date, college, and subject at the top right of the page. Labeling your work is a habit that is extremely important.

Supplies:
Though it would benefit the students if they each come to school with their own school supplies such as crayons, markers, scissors, glue, paper, pencils, etc., they are not expected to. I have some supplies in the classroom for everyone to share. However, I will be asking for donations of school supplies throughout the school year when needed. This is so that all students have enough supplies to use in the classroom. Keep in mind that you do not have to give if you do not wish to.

Parent/Guardian Volunteer:
Unfortunately, I will not be taking any classroom volunteers this year. However, I may ask for volunteers for other events such as the bake sale and field trip. All volunteers MUST be fingerprinted and pass a TB test. Please see the front office for more information.

Special Note:
The syllabus is subject to changes. If there are any changes to the syllabus, you will receive an email with the latest update.

Sincerely,
Mr. Roman
